Green MAKING|MATERIALS |OBJECTS
As curator and exhibitor I designed this exhibition to celebrated Green MAKING, MATERIALs, and OBJECTS by showcasing creators, owners and processes. It highlighted the essential connections between eco-friendly practices, materials, and sustainability. It invited viewers to reflect on their personal relationships with objects, the environmental impact of artefacts, and the importance of adopting more responsible ownership and consumer habits.
Green MAKING presented work from 15 MAKE Southwest professionals emphasising the creation of objects through green practices and MATERIALS gave visitors the opportunity to explore everyday materials and objects discussing their compositions and ability to decompose. In the OBJECTS section 104 contributors shared stories behind their objects (a fake hummus pot from comedian Alex Horne, a metal hole punch from curator and broadcaster Kathleen Soriano, a ceramic pot from chef Tony Singh MBE), examining connections to items that bring joy, highlighting their influence on decision-making, and discovering how awareness might contribute to reducing their carbon footprint.

Green Maker Initiative book 2023
As Co-Investigator in Creative Industries this book is one of many exciting and hugely timely outcomes from our three-year European Regional Development funded Net-Zero Exchange (formerly Low Carbon Devon), positioned at the University of Plymouth Sustainable Earth Institute. Initiative partners were MAKE Southwest CEO Laura Wasley & Hannah Mills-Brown
It has taken many to produce this book, all expects in their fields, all full of passion and drive to generously share their knowledge, experience and thirst to push sustainable designing, making and educating to the forefront of the creative sustainability debate. We hope it will be used as a guide and reference to navigate thinkings, questions and ideas that encompass “Designing” and “Making” as well as raising awareness of our actions as “Consumers” and “Users”.
